Wind Energy

Wind energy has come a long way since interest was renewed in the ‘70s following the oil price rises. Installed capacity reached almost 370,000 Megawatts worldwide by end 2014, double the figure at end 2010. Wind technology is now ‘mature’.  This note explains the role wind can play and considers the remaining concerns: over costs, the unreliability of wind power, and the difficulties of integrating wind into national grids.
