Engineering UK 2012

Vince CableRt Hon Dr Vince Cable MP, Secretary of State for Business, Innovation and Skills provides the forward to this year’s report of the state of the UK’s Engineering sector, which was launched today.

The report, available from the Engineering UK website, is a benchmark against which the performance of the sector can be judged over the coming year.

Engineering is at the heart of the UK’s growth agenda, and the report hinges on a central fact: that the rebalancing of the UK economy, addressing climate change and feeding a growing population will rely on engineering employers and the UK’s skilled engineering workforce.

The report was the subject of a round-table meeting at the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills on 8 December 2011, hosted by Minister for Business and Enterprise, Mark Prisk MP (Con), which brought together leaders from industry and education to address these challenges. On 14 December, members of all Engineering UK’s advisory panels will meet to debate the findings of the report and consider actions that the engineering community might take to address some of the issues it highlights.
